F4/F4i Installation Instructions for:
Frame Sliders
Bar Ends
WARNING: The installation of all parts in these installation instructions must be performed by a qualified motorcycle mechanic who is using the correct tools and who understands the correct use of all tools required to complete the installation.
Frame Sliders
Instructions are based on the use of our special alignment tool
Start on either side but don't remove both engine mount screws at the same time.
1. Remove the three screws in the fairing that are located at the back, upper back corner (near where your knee
would be if you were on the bike tucked in), and lower middle of the fairing. Leave in place the three screws that attach
the lower fairing to the upper fairing.
2. Disconnect the lower fairing from the black plastic intake tube cover by pulling firmly but carefully on the fairing while
holding the cover in place.
3. Using a 14mm socket on a long breaker-bar, remove the engine mount screw that lies in the vicinity of the V-shape
of the frame where the smooth, extruded aluminum of the frame is welded to the comparatively rough, cast part of the
motorcycle’s frame. To do this you will have to gently pull the loosened fairing out enough to get the breaker-bar on
the screw.
4. Insert the alignment tool into the hole that the engine mount screw was just removed from and patiently thread it in
as far as possible. Once threaded in the tool should not have any lateral movement, this will ensure accuracy with step
six.
5. Gently place the fairing back in position and replace the three screws that you took out in step one. You should not
have any trouble snugging the screws.
6. Gently press the exterior of the fairing in the vicinity of the tool until you determine its location, then, press more
firmly until you see a hint of the point of the tool pushing into the fairing. You now have a mark that should be precisely
aligned with the engine mount screw hole (frame slider mounting point).
7. Remove the alignment tool.
8. Drill a small pilot hole at the mark that the tool made and verify it is true with the engine mount.
9. Carefully cut out the hole, making sure to keep the mark at the center. The best way to achieve a round hole for
your sliders is to use a hole-saw. You should be able to find one at any hardware store or building supply store for a
few dollars. You should use a hole-saw that is at least 1/8” bigger than the diameter of your sliders.
10. Once you have cut the hole you may reinstall the three fairing screws and snap the air duct cover and the fairing
back together.
WARNING: THE WASHER MUST BE ON THE SCREW BEFORE INSTALLING THE SLIDERS
11. The slider can now be installed. When installing the right slider, make sure to install the slider with the larger diameter base on it since it will not fit into the recess on the left side of the motorcycle. Tighten the mounting screw to the factory torque specification.
12. Repeat for the opposite side.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about installation.
Bar Ends
1. Apply a small amount of blue or red thread locker (Loctite) to the supplied screws.
2. The inside of the bar should have a notched insert that matches the shape of the base of the bar end; our bar ends are made to fit a factory setup and will not work with a generic insert.
3. Install the bar end making sure that the bar end notch is correctly mated to the bar insert and add light torque.
4. Confirm that the bar grip on the throttle side does not touch the bar end and that the bar end does not inhibit smooth throttle twisting action in any way.
