99-02 YZF-R6 Frame Sliders Installation
WARNING: The installation of all parts in these installation instructions must be performed by a qualified motorcycle mechanic who is using the correct tools and who understands the correct use of all tools required to complete the installation.
Tools you will need:- 3/8 or 1/2 drive ratchet
- Short extension
- 14mm socket
- 10mm hex/Allen driver
- Allen wrench set (metric)
- 1-7/8" hole saw
- Drill for hole saw
- Sharp knife/razor or Dremel tool
Instructions are based on using our special alignment tool
1. Start on the left side by removing the fairing.
2. Remove the left engine mount screw (circled, fig. A) and screw the alignment tool into the open hole. Do not remove the frame pinch bolt.
3. Reinstall the left fairing. The fairing should mount completely without hitting the tool point.
4. You will need to adjust the tool so that it is very close to the mounted fairing, but does not interfere with the fairing being properly mounted. This is critical for the accuracy of the mark.
5. With the fairing completely mounted (use all fairing mounting screws), push in firmly in the area of the tool so that a mark can be made on the inside of the fairing with the tool point. NOTE: If the tool is not adjusted properly, the fairing will need to be pushed in too far to achieve a mark and the mark will be inaccurate.
6. Remove the fairing and confirm a mark was made on the inside of the plastic.
7. Using a hole saw that is approx. 1/8" bigger than the slider diameter you have, drill at the mark. You will also need to remove a small amount of plastic from the top edge of the lower fairing using a Dremel tool or sharp knife. This is because the hole you cut is very close to the connecting point of the mid and lower fairings.
8. Remove the tool.
9. Install the left side frame slider (longest of the two) using the supplied screw and washer. NOTICE: THE SCREW MUST HAVE A WASHER ON IT. ENSURE THAT THE WASHER IS ON THE SCREW BEFORE THE SCREW IS USED TO ATTACH THE SLIDER. Using a torque wrench, tighten the screw to the factory torque specification.
10. Reinstall the left fairing.
11. Repeat the steps above for the right side (Fig. B). The right side slider is the shortest of the two.
